Refined Painting Services is owned and operated by Tristan Hamberg, the latest generation of the Portland area Hamberg family painting line. The Hamberg family painting heritage began when Tristan’s father Joel took his first paint job in 1975. In 1983 Joel founded his company, Joel Hamberg Painting, employing and training two of his brothers who each eventually branched out by opening their own niche painting companies. The three brothers have over 100 years combined experience in the painting and restoration craft.

Tristan began training in his father’s business at the age of 14 by spending his summers behind-the-scenes learning the office and shop work. At age 16 he began painting in the field under Joel’s supervision during his summer breaks. After graduating high school in 2010 Tristan began full-time painting with Joel and continued to hone both his painting and business skills for the next 4 years. In 2014 Tristan opened Refined Painting Services, and has been continuously operating since then in Gresham and the surrounding areas.

Joel retired from Joel Hamberg Painting at the end of 2021, but we are privileged to continue to offer his expertise at Refined Painting Services as Special Projects Manager focusing on his two primary passions: wood refinishing and historic restorations.
